A study will be carried out on the social and economic impact Peterhead’s new multimillion-pound school will have on the town.
Aberdeenshire Council has appointed an independent consultant to conduct the study into the impact of relocating Peterhead Academy.
Aberdeenshire Council had set aside £71 million to invest in the new campus at Kinmundy, which will include a 1,400-capacity secondary school and a new 600-capacity primary.
The study will be completed by the summer and then presented to councillors.
Preparations are also under way to start the statutory consultation process required for a potential merger of Dales Park and Meethill Schools and the relocation of Anna Ritchie School for children with additional needs.
Chairman of Buchan area committee, councillor Norman Smith said: “It’s important for the local community to know that where we can continue to safely progress projects, we are.”
While many construction projects are on pause, preparatory work is continuing.
Mr Smith said: “The development of Peterhead Community Campus is a real priority for the council and we look forward to seeing how this important preparatory work will shape plans moving forward.”
The statutory consultation process on the relocation of the secondary school is also in its final stages and will also be a “key focus” of the committee discussions later this year.
Work on the school is expected to begin in 2023.
