Aberdeen’s Depute Provost has hit out at a local supermarket after her shopping experience left her feeling “vulnerable”.
Councillor Jennifer Stewart was shocked at the lack of customers adhering to social distancing rules when she was doing her weekly shop at the Asda store in Bridge of Dee.
She reported that people were ignoring the two meter distance rule as well as the one way system, marked with arrows.
Councillor Stewart said: “Outside in the queue everyone was adhering to the rules but when I got inside my experience was completely different.
“The shop has a responsibility to its customers and if they are becoming abusive when staff mention the rules then they should ban them.
“I have a daughter working in a care home.
“I don’t want anyone getting too close to me and passing it on. She’s helping people who can’t see their families.
“I’m concerned for people. They need to stay vigilant and listen to government advice otherwise this could be here for a long time.”
An Asda spokesman said they had rolled out “extensive” numbers of social distancing measures at their Bridge of Dee store such as limiting the number of people in store, using two-meter markers, having barriers at tills and continuing to follow government guidelines.
He added: “We ask that our customers please continue to follow the guidance which is clearly marked in all of our stores.”
