Aberdeenshire music superstar Emeli Sande has agreed to judge a north-east charity’s lockdown talent competition.

AberNecessities, which raises money to support underprivileged families in the area, is holding the “Aberdream’s Got Talent” contest to pay for the essential items they need to survive.

The charity is running a digital competition to raise vital funds to support the north-east’s most vulnerable with provisions such as nappies and toiletries during the coronavirus pandemic.

And they were delighted when the singer agreed to play a key role.

A video has since been released by the singer – shared on the AberNecessities Facebook page – in which she endorses the charity and encourages everyone across the north-east to join in the fun and submit a video showcasing their talents.

In the video she said: “AberNecessities believes that no child should go without. If you believe the same, please join me in sharing local talent across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

“This can be anything, singing, dancing, magic – whatever you want to show off.”

Run by mother and daughter team, Michelle Herd and Danielle Flecher-Horn, AberNecessities has been working hard during the lockdown to maintain supplies of critical items, as well as distribute them to families and children in need.

Ms Herd said: “The lockdown has posed us a number of challenges and we’ve had to adapt to provide the same level of support.

“With Emeli Sandé’s help, we’re hoping we can raise more funds.

“Her support means a lot to us and we are so grateful for her involvement in this.”

To enter a the talent show, people can donate £3 to the charity along with a showcase of their singing, dancing or a special skill.

Entrants will be in with a chance of winning a £100 John Lewis voucher and a shout-out on the ten-thousand follower strong AberNecessities Facebook page.

Ms Flecher-Horn added:“We’re so excited to have a superstar like Emeli Sandé join in with our Aberdreams Got Talent competition.

“We can’t wait to see what amazing talents people dazzle us with when they submit their entries.

Submissions for Aberdreams got Talent open on May 25 and close at midnight on May 28.

Three top entrants will be chosen before a winner is announced by Emeli Sandé on May 31.
