Buchan Heritage Society has announced the winners of this year’s popular Doric writing competition.
Organisers were forced to cancel the annual festival, but were delighted at the response to the writing competition – with lots of “wonderful and interesting” entries submitted.
The competition has been running for years and aims to encourage children and adults to explore and better understand Doric.
There are two categories, poetry and prose and all participants will receive a certificate for taking part.
Eight-year-old Charlotte Gibb from Strichen Primary School won the junior under 10’s prose category while Bob Mitchell, from Haddington, received first prize in the open open category.
In the poetry category the winners were: Liam Mackie, from Macduff Primary for under 10s; Jasmine Gordon, from Rhynie School, for the 11-12s; Aaron Jones, from Kemnay, for the 13-17s; and Nan Taylor, from Peterhead, for the open.
