A life-sized silhouette of an NHS nurse has been erected at a north-east war memorial in tribute to the health workers fighting on the front line in the battle against coronavirus.
Mike and Linda Muller from New Byth decided to put together the display in honour of the NHS staff working hard to help others during the Covid-19 pandemic.
They have erected the silhouette at the community’s war memorial, alongside a similar depiction of a First World War soldier, which they created and put in place on Armistice Day last year.
Mr Muller said: “The nurses are the same as those who fought in the trenches in World War One, but the only difference is they can’t see the enemy.
“As a token of respect for them, we decided to do what we did with the soldier and my wife, who is an excellent artist, designed the silhouette.
“She’s standing shoulder to shoulder with the Tommy from the First World War.
“We just felt that we wanted to do a bit more than clap and ring a bell at 8pm, and the war memorial is the most fitting place for it as it’s the most prominent place in the village.”
