A mum who read books to children at an Aberdeenshire library before lockdown has taken her storytime sessions online – and has fans around the world tuning in.
Julia Lawrie Morrison said she was feeling “out of sorts when everything stopped” and started to think about other parents in similar situations.
To help give mums and dads something to do with their little ones while stuck at home, Ms Lawrie Morrison decided to record videos of her own “Bookbug” sessions in her garden.
She previously held them at Stonehaven Library.
In her free Youtube videos, Ms Lawrie Morrison tells stories and sings songs for young children and babies, and also offers special “shout-outs, hellos and birthday messages” for children missing each other or their grandparents while they are in lockdown.
At first, she only made her videos for families in and around Stonehaven, but she has now welcomed viewers from Montrose, Dundee, Edinburgh and even New Zealand.
She said: “I only set out to deliver it locally in order that other mums and dads might remember me and enjoy some kind of fun continuity during this time, but it seems a good many of us all over are seeking the same. “
Bookbug is a Scottish Book Trust programme designed to help youngsters develop a love of reading.
