A wooden community hut which was previously pulled apart by vandals has now been burned to the ground.
Officers are currently investigating the blaze which took place at Battlehill near Huntly sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The wooden hut was built in 2014 through a community exchange project with residents of Finland and was used by local groups.
It was ripped apart by vandals using a 4×4 at the end of 2018, before being rebuilt and has now suffered even more devastating damage.
Huntly councillor Gwyneth Petrie said she was “disgusted” to hear of the latest destruction and highlighted the potential risk of the fire spreading to nearby woodlands.
She said: “This has understandably angered and upset the local community and I hope the police can find out who did it.”
Sergeant Malcy Smith, of Huntly police office, said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.”
Firefighters were called to the Battlehill area in Huntly yesterday just before 10am to a “fire in the open”.
One appliance was sent and the team used two knapsack sprayers to extinguish it.
The stop message was received at 10.38am.
