Volunteers in an Aberdeenshire town have been carrying out food collections with a difference – by blasting upbeat tunes from their very own “disco truck” as they pick up essentials.
The Stonehaven and District Round Table organisation decided to spread some much-needed cheer during the pandemic by gathering contributions from generous locals in colourful fashion.
As well as blaring feel-good anthems from the truck laden with bags of food, they have even started dressing up in “disco gear” for the trips.
Hundreds of bags of non-perishable goods collected by the truck have been dished out to those in need in recent weeks.
So far, the team have toured the Ury Estate, Glenury Estate, Mearns Drive and other areas, and plan to cover every area in Stonehaven before finishing their rounds.
Residents have been asked to put out bags full of donations at the ends of their driveways to be collected safely.
All donations are being distributed to those in need via the Haven Community Larder and food banks.
Although tours have so far been weather dependent, the team are aiming to make trips around Stonehaven three times a week, from 6pm onwards, and have been posting where they are going to be in advance on their Facebook page.
Graham Stewart, of the Round Table group, said: “A lot of our events have been cancelled due to coronavirus, so this has been a great way to make ourselves useful.
“So far we have collected two full vanloads, and our aim is to work our way around everywhere in Stonehaven and maybe even beyond.
“It’s been a great response so far, and folk have been enjoying coming out for a dance too, there has been lots of engagement and lots of fun.”
