Stonehaven’s 1297 Air Cadet squadron has won a special award for being the most-improved of its kind in the UK.
The Beachgate Lane-based group has gone from just a handful of cadets three years ago to almost 30 attending regularly in recent months, making it one of the largest in north-east Scotland.
The Marshall Trophy has been awarded to the 1297 Air Cadets for their efforts in expanding their numbers and making the squadron a better organisation for its members.
Flight Lieutenant George Stephen, officer commanding at the 1297 squadron, said: “This is a huge achievement, everyone is genuinely speechless from this amazing result.
“I have always felt so privileged to command such a fantastic squadron, where everyone srives to achieve the best they can.”
The air cadets are now planning an award ceremony and parade for the trophy, which they hope will take place towards the end of October.
