Residents of seaside towns and villages in the Kincardine and Mearns areas have been invited to apply for a £12,500 pot of cash made available to support local projects and initiatives.
The money, from the Scottish Government’s Coastal Communities fund, is available for groups aiming to carry out projects to better their local area’s environment, culture, or wellbeing.
Communities that could be eligible include Findon, Muchalls, Stonehaven, Inverbervie and St Cyrus.
Bruce Stewart, Aberdeenshire Council’s area manager for Kincardine and Mearns, has encouraged coastal communities to put in their applications as soon as possible.
He said: “In light of the new challenges we are facing as a result of the coronavirus, this funding may enable the creation of new projects to help with such themes as community health and wellbeing, enhancement of our local environment, or celebration of our historical links and ties with the sea.
“We anticipate there will be future funds available, so if your project is not sufficiently advanced to be able to submit a claim for this financial year, then you may be able to apply in future years.”
Applications must be submitted to the council by Monday, August 10, and after the closing date councillors on the Kincardine and Mearns area committee will review them and allocate funding to the projects that most closely match the criteria required.
