Scores of north-east charities have received grants worth a combined £93,000 to help them continue their “heroic” efforts.
The Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO) offers a wide range of services to support third sector organisations in the city.
It has now been announced that 41 local outfits will benefit from almost £93,000.
Supported by the Scottish Government and the National Lottery’s community fund, the money is hoped to help organisations carry on their work during the pandemic.
Groups which help provide food, provide practical support and are dedicated to improving digital connectivity are among the first to benefit.
Maggie Hepburn, chief executive of ACVO, said: “Throughout this pandemic we have seen a heroic effort from third sector organisations in Aberdeen, and it is our hope that this funding helps them to continue this valuable work.
“The organisations are just a few examples and I’d like to thank every single organisation who applied to this fund for their input.”
North-east cancer support charity Clan was the recipient of £3,000 from the fund.
Iona Mitchell, the organisation’s head of cancer support services, said: “When we took the difficult decision to temporarily close our wellbeing centre in March, we were determined to find ways to still be here for those who needed our help.
“Within days of our temporary closure, we introduced a dedicated telephone support service, which has now been accessed more than 400 times from individuals within the Aberdeen area.”
