A grateful mother has thanked an Aberdeenshire garage for going “over and above” to dismantle part of the family car to retrieve her daughter’s lost ring.
Caroline Stronach bought her daughter Rebecca the piece of jewellery for her 16th birthday late last year.
But last week, while the family were parked in Inverurie enjoying a takeaway for one of the first times since lockdown started, it dropped into an inaccessible part of the car.
After a call to Jim Reid Vehicle Sales and Service in Kintore, the garage offered its assistance.
Service manager Andy Emslie organised the ring rescue effort, and after the team removed the seats and carpets from the front passenger area, apprentice William Wilkie found and recovered the cherished item of jewellery.
The garage then returned the ring, as well as a fully valeted and sanitised car, to Ms Stronach and Rebecca – completely free of charge.
Ms Stronach, from Lumsden, has now given the company a ringing endorsement for the act of kindness.
She said: “My eldest daughter had this ring that I had saved up to buy her for her 16th birthday at the end of last year.
“But she took it off, and it dropped down the sides of the seat into the once place we couldn’t get to it, under the carpet and into a hole.
“So I phoned Jim Reid and they were just fantastic. They came all the way from Kintore, picked up the car, took it to their garage, and spent four hours pulling the car apart to find the ring and then they brought the car back to us fully valeted.
“And the best part was they didn’t even charge me – I mean how fantastic is that?
“It really meant the world to us, especially during times like these. They really went over and above, and they really didn’t need to so we’re just so grateful.”
