A north-east football club has raised £4,500 for a local charity by taking part in a 24-hour running challenge.
Fraserburgh United JFC amassed the sum for the Salvation Army foodbank.
Each team member was allocated an hour slot to run as far as they could, with the first participant starting at 7am and the challenge finishing at 7am the following day.
The team was inspired to take part in the challenge as other north-east football teams like Deveronvale had completed it.
Fraserburgh Salvation Army’s Major Caroline Buchanan appreciated the team’s fundraising efforts at a time when more and more people are relying on the group’s good work.
She said: “We already had a foodbank running before Covid-19 and we were giving out on average 10 parcels per week. We are now giving out 75 a week, so there has been a massive increase.
“As you can imagine, supplies get used up very quickly so donations will help us to continue to help many families in the future days.”
Braving adverse weather conditions, the team were successful in covering more than 298km which they recorded using the Strava app – which also tracked where they ran.
Throughout the challenge, the team shared their progress on social media.
Bruce Patterson, who plays midfield for the team, shared before and after pictures as he challenged himself on the timed run.
