A Sandend artist is hoping to become an MSP for her area at next year’s Holyrood election.
Alison Simpson, 56, has been selected as the Scottish Liberal Democrat’s candidate for the Banffshire and Buchan coast seat in the May 6, 2021 vote.
The mum-of-two moved to the north-east from the Highlands in 1987, and has spent the last 25 years working and volunteering as a social enterprise specialist and community development officer.
She joined the Lib Dems in 2017, standing unsuccessfully in that year’s local authority elections.
“This is my first foray into trying to get elected at parliament level,” she said.
“Power has to be put in the hands of local communities and bright back to the area. That’s what the Liberal Democrats stand for. I don’t feel the area has a voice at the moment.”
The former Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University student has recently been involved with the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy, Whitehills Marina and the Banffshire Community Trust.
