Doorstep delivery services will soon be on offer for bookworms in the north-east.
While Live Life Aberdeenshire’s digital library services have been popular during lockdown, there is also a “great demand” for access to materials only available in libraries.
A new “click and collect” service will begin in Oldmeldrum on Wednesday, followed by libraries in Fraserburgh and Banchory, then Ellon and Stonehaven by the end of July.
It will be possible to have books and other library items delivered to doorsteps by local staff.
Libraries and information services manager, Sharon Jamieson, said: “We recognise that not everyone can access digital services and the introduction of this service will ensure no vulnerable groups are limited by either shielding or simply an inability to visit a library when it is open.
“Click and collect users can either carry out the booking themselves online through a very simple process or they can phone a member of the team who will take them through the process.”
Live Life Aberdeenshire has partnered with the Co-Op who provided compostable bags to wrap up items in, which will have quarantine measures applied both for returns and issues.
Neither service will be limited to books – users will also be able to collect hearing aid batteries from the NHS, school books and even musical instruments from Library Headquarters later on.
