Aberdeenshire residents are urging the NTS to open a local landmark to the public this year.
Leith Hall, in Kennethmont, has played witness to Scottish history since 1650, with 10 generations of the Leith-Hay family having lived there until just after the Second World War.
But currently, plans are in place to keep the popular property closed until summer 2022.
North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has written to the chief executive of NTS, Philip Long, to highlight plans created to allow the site to reopen this summer as restrictions ease.
His letter states: “I was encouraged to learn of plans for Leith Hall’s designed landscape and walled gardens to reopen to the public in July.
“I am even more encouraged to learn that Friends of Leith Hall have worked up detailed plans which would allow the hall itself to reopen for a short season this year, on bank holidays and weekends in August and September.
“I ask that you give them serious consideration in order to ensure that this important property is open again this year and fully open next year in 2021.”
The trust was forced to place more than 400 staff at risk of redundancy due to financial difficulty because of the crisis.
