A snake made of dozens of colourful rocks painted by children during lockdown is to become a permanent tribute to Portsoy’s key workers.
Siblings Cammy Rae, four, and Macey, one, took inspiration from similar slithery creations taking shape across the country during lockdown and, after painting stones from the beach, started three snakes at the town’s bowling club, church centre and Liberty Boat Garden.
Fellow residents began to follow their lead, and quickly the snakes began growing – with more than 130 bright rocks now lined up at the bowling club.
Cammy said: “I really love counting the stones on our walks, it’s exciting seeing the snakes growing so quickly.
“We had good fun painting the stones and have been asking our friends and family to paint some for us to add.”
Portsoy Area Action Team, a 20-strong group of volunteers providing practice aid during lockdown, has now decided to make the snake at the Liberty Boat Garden a permanent feature.
Volunteer Angela Drummond said: “One of our group members saw a news story about decorated stones being cemented into a wall and thought this would be a great idea for the Portsoy stone snake.
“It will be a bright and cheerful feature that can be enjoyed by the people of Portsoy and visitors for some time to come.”
Anyone still to add stones are asked to varnish and place them before August 11.
