The Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen has issued an urgent plea for support, saying it needs helps from its customers “now more than ever”.
It launched a £15,000 crowdfunding campaign in April to help cover its costs, but so far has generated less than 40% of this.
The venue is the oldest of its kind in the city, and makes most of its revenue from artists and performers hiring its stage – something which has been impossible during the pandemic.
After lying derelict for more than a decade, the building was taken over in 2009 and held its first new show in 2011.
But after years of hard work, sales manager Christina Camillo says the Covid-19 crisis has undone a lot of their progress.
“We have no resources or income just now – it’s all come to a halt,” she said.
“We don’t know when we are going to open again and with social distancing, it will probably be at reduced capacity.”
Miss Camillo added: “It’s a really challenging time for us.
“Before the lockdown we had built up the theatre to where we wanted to be.
“It took a long time to get there. But now it feels like we’re starting again from square one.
“The Tivoli is Aberdeen’s oldest theatre and it holds a special place in many people’s hearts.
“It’s an iconic venue and we hope the people of Aberdeen will want to keep it thriving.”
