New signs have been installed at Aberdeen beach to try and reduce the chances of people getting into trouble in the water.
Seven large boards have been put up at various points along the seafront, from the Donmouth to Footdee.
The signage gives onlookers their exact location, safety advice and guidance around hazards in the area, together with highlighting the nearest safety equipment.
They were put up at the suggestion of Aberdeen Water Safety Group, which brings together experts from The RNLI, Coastguard, police, fire, the council and other bodies.
It was formed after the tragic death of a mother and son near The Esplanade in 2016.
Group chairman Graham Dutton told The P&J: “We wanted to increase knowledge of the risks to reduce potential fatalities at Aberdeen beach.
“Before there was an issue of people phoning emergency services and not knowing where they were.
“Obviously putting a sign up isn’t exactly going to prevent a fatality but it can educate people to hopefully stop something happening.
“Credit is due to Aberdeen City Council for not delaying in getting them up, despite everything else that is going on, as we wanted these signs in place as soon as possible.”
Councillor Dell Henricksen is also a group member, and added: “Tragic events are often in the minds of people when they happen but with the passage of time they can be forgotten.
“These are a reminder of the dangers at Aberdeen beach, especially as the tide comes in quite a long way.”
