An Aberdeenshire businessman has carried out thousands of pounds worth of work for his local golf club free of charge ahead of reopening.
Steven Reaper, of the decorating business SR Decor, completely overhauled the lounge of McDonald Golf Club in Ellon.
The club opened its newly refurbished lounge and dining area last Friday, after months of being shut.
The club’s secretary Mike Morrice said he was “stunned” at the generous offer to do it up.
He said: “We wanted to redecorate the lounge and had got a quote in.
“We put a message out to all our members and said if any of them are in the decorating trade, then we would love to give the work to one of our own.
“Steven got in touch and said he wasn’t interested in bidding, but said he would be prepared to do some work and reduce the overall bill.
“He took a look and said ‘it’s okay, I’ll get it done for nothing’ – and we were just stunned.
“He went from the existing room, stripped all the wallpaper, undercoated everything, sorted the walls, and he and his staff decorated the lounge from top to bottom.
“It’s just been absolutely fabulous for us.
“For the members of the club they’re now coming back to a beautiful freshly decorated lounge that’s a much more pleasant place to be in.”
Mr Reaper, who also runs a property business, said: “We took it from the 1990s to the modern era.
“I told the club we would do it for nothing. We got my guys in, tore the whole place apart, took off all the wallpaper, painted everything, and now it looks fantastic for the members.
“It was a big job, but we rolled our sleeves up and got it done.
“I would love to get more involved in the community and help out, I’m always on the look-out to be helping folk.”
