The winners of the final Press and Journal postcode competition said they were “absolutely chuffed” to get a surprise on what was otherwise a dreich weekend.
For the past week we have printed a list of postcodes in the paper – giving people the chance to get in touch and win £200.
Winners from across the north-east and Highlands have put their money towards holidays, a summerhouse – and even a Chinese takeaway.
Sheila Stephen, from Insch, and Hector Mackay, from Sutherland, were the final pair.
Mrs Stephen, 62, said it was a “great surprise” to receive the phone call.
The retired care-support worker hopes to support a local business with her winnings.
She said: “About 15 years ago I won a Press and Journal competition, so I must be a little bit lucky.
“We’ve been in lockdown so long, it would be lovely to go out for a nice meal. I think that’s how I’ll spend the money.”
Meanwhile Mr Mackay, 59, plans to give his winnings to someone special.
The former distillery worker said: “My mum and I read the Press and Journal every day and she suggested I enter – I’ve never really done a competition before so I was delighted to win.
“I will probably give the money to my mother.
“She’s in her eighties and has to fork out for a TV licence now – it’s just not fair. I’ll give the money to her so she can pay for that.”
