Special summer-themed learning packs have been distributed to hundreds of children across Aberdeen during lockdown.
The city council’s family learning service first created and delivered learning packs in April to helping parents who would otherwise have had no access to learning resources or activities during Covid-19.
Since then, 234 children from 131 families have received the bags, which contain items such as art supplies, yo-yos, toy windmills and even magnifying glasses and descriptive drawings to help children find and identify the insects in their gardens
Over the same period, a team of seven officers have taken part in almost 1,800 calls, video calls and WhatsApp conversations to help vulnerable city families through the height of the lockdown.
Councillor John Wheeler, Aberdeen City Council’s operational delivery convener, has been delighted with the work undertaken by the service and its partners.
And he said their efforts would have been welcomed by families across the city.
“I must again offer my thanks to the family learning service which has once more done such a wonderful in ensuring that families and children are supported to take advantage of the summer months through fun outdoor learning,” he said.
“I’d also like to thank the services, partners and donors who have helped us put together the new outdoor learning packs.
“They have ensured we have been able to help children and families experience a greater sense of normality in these challenging times.”
