Long-awaited plans for a new leisure complex at Peterhead will be unveiled next week.
Developers are putting the finishing touches to designs for the multimillion-pound centre, which is proposed for land at Catto Park beside Balmoor stadium.
The architects’ proposals, which have been drawn up following consultation with local groups and secondary school pupils, are being kept under wraps until a public meeting on Tuesday night.
However, it is understood the proposal will include a variety of new sports facilities, including a synthetic football pitch and boxing gym, as well a meeting area for community groups.
The Willowbank training centre, which caters for local adults with physical and learning needs, will also get a base at the new building.
The ambitious development is being spearheaded by Peterhead Football Club.
The League Two champions commissioned consultancy firm PMR Leisure to work on the project, with plans being drawn up by Michael Laird Architects.
The scheme will be jointly funded by the club and Aberdeenshire Council.
Last night, PMR Leisure director Penny Lochhead said: “We hope for a good turn out at next week’s meeting.
“The designs are original and very inclusive, bringing the community, Willowbank and PFC all into one developed building design.
“The working group has worked really well and met on a monthly basis with the design team to ensure all aspects of the design works for all aspects of the community.”
Ms Lochhead added: “Members of the working group are delighted with the outcome and believe this project will really bring about a step change for the people of Peterhead and really put it on the map with something unique.”
The proposal was first announced at a public meeting in March last year.
Peterhead FC stressed that although it would be involved in the public-private project, it would not be running the facility.
Team bosses said the aim of the scheme was to benefit the community, not to line the club’s pockets.
The public meeting will be held at Balmoor Stadium from 7pm on Tuesday.
