A team of RGU students have organised a fashion show to raise funds for an Aberdeen animal rescue shelter.
The third year fashion management students have organised the Northern Lights Fashion show, which will take place at 7pm on May 30 at the RGU Business School on the university’s Garthdee campus.
This month’s event will comprise of themed catwalks showcasing clothing and fashion trends on display at Aberdeen’s Bon Accord and St Nicholas shopping centres.
Among the inspirations for the cat walks is the Dons recent success and the nightlife of the granite city.
And money raised from the evening will go towards the students chosen charity, Mrs Murray’s Cat and Dog home, based in Seaton.
The animal shelter has catered for lost, stray and unwanted pets in Aberdeen for over 100 years, and is dependent on charitable donations for it’s upkeep.
Around 1500 animals pass through the home every year.
The evening’s events will include entertainment such as live music, a set piece from a group of street dancers and a light display, all taking place between eight themed catwalks.
Guests will also be greeted with a welcoming drink and be invited to browse the retail and refreshment stalls set up on the evening.
An RGU spokeswoman said: “Over the past six years the Fashion Management students have raised an incredible £70,000 for various charities. This year they’ve been working extremely hard to plan the show, as well as hold various fundraising activities, in aid of Mrs Murrays Cat and Dog home.
“This year’s theme was inspired by Aberdeen and is a celebration of all its wonderful attributes.
“On the night, we’ll see eight walks showcasing the latest trends with spectacular lighting celebrating the local community. Walks will include heritage, Aberdeen’s vibrant nightlife, and even AFC’s recent success.”
She added: “The show is a great way for the students to put theory into practice and actively participate in fashion industry activities, providing a real insight into the increasingly important events side of the fashion industry while raising much needed funds for charity.
“We wish the students the best of luck on the night and look forward to seeing the spectacular event.”
Funds for the show are currently being raised by the students in the run up to the evening through such activities as a face painting stall in the Bon Accord Centre, a car boot sale at Thainstone Mart and an evening of karaoke on the university campus.
