An Aberdeen children’s charity has received a boost from the Duchess of Cambridge’s new initiative – and its leaders got the royal’s personal approval at a gathering in England.
The princess has launched a scheme bringing together British brands and baby banks across the UK, to help raise awareness and rally donations for families in need.
AberNecessities is one of three baby banks to be involved in the project and its founder and co-founder were invited to meet Kate last week in South Yorkshire for the launch of the campaign.
At the meeting, the Duchess helped unload a pallet of deliveries and sorted donations before speaking with families about their experience of baby banks.
Founder of AberNecessities, Danielle Flecher-Horn, said she was “extremely proud” to be involved.
She added: “This incredible support from the Duchess of Cambridge will afford us the ability to help more struggling families with the basic essentials to ensure no child goes without.
“Having taught children who have social and emotional difficulties I have seen first-hand the effect early childhood experiences have in later life.
“By providing parents with the resources to build a positive relationship with their children – from pregnancy and throughout the first years – we can make a real difference to a child’s development, health and overall happiness.”
Statistics from a new survey conducted by Little Village found 77% of baby banks desperately need more nappies, mattresses and other products and that nine in 10 baby banks say the outbreak of Covid-19 is making it harder to support families in the way they would want.
