Staff and pupils at a north-east primary school are celebrating a major windfall after nearly £20,000 of lottery cash was awarded to groups in the Buchan area.
Clerkhill School in Peterhead has received £10,000 from the Awards for All Scotland scheme.
The money is being used to create a new agility playground in the school grounds, which will be made available to the whole community.
Work is already underway on the project, which is expected to be completed in time for the summer holidays.
A further grant of £8,711 has been donated to the Rosehearty Community Boat Club. The group said it will use the award to enhanced its sailing lessons for young boaters.
Materials will be bought to built two more dinghies, equipment and a rigid inflatable craft, which will be used as a rescue boat.
The pay-outs were yesterday welcomed by Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson who said: “This is a fantastic result for two very worthwhile causes in my constituency.
“The award for Clerkhill School will transform the school grounds and provide fun and entertainment for the whole of the community.”
He added: “I am also delighted that Rosehearty Community Boat Club has received more than £8,000 so that more young people can learn how to sail safely and with experienced professionals showing them the ropes.
“This money is a very welcome boost to two well deserving projects and I wish them all the best as they put it to excellent use.”
Earlier this year, Mr Stevenson campaigned for measures to put the brakes on motorists near Clerkhill School. He called for action after being inundated with complaints from parents.
