A special trust set up by Aberdeen’s Lord Provost to help the city’s hardest-hit during the pandemic is appealing for more donations so that it can reach more people.
The fund, spearheaded by city dignitary Barney Crockett, was launched in May after receiving cash from the Seven Incorporated Trades Widows’ Charity and Aberdeen City Council’s Common Good Fund.
Combined with public donations, it has handed out a total of about £250,000 to charities aimed at helping those who need it most.
The council has now issued an appeal for more donations to be made to the crowd-funding page.
And the local authority has allocated £50,000 from a “food and essential provisions fund” it received from the Scottish Governement to give the tally a boost.
Mr Crockett said: “The Trust has been heartened by the amazing response from businesses, associations and private individuals to help the most vulnerable in our communities during this pandemic.”
In total 39 charities received a portion of the £251,070 between May and July.
Cash can be pledged online at

and charities can apply for up to £5,000 before 11.59pm on August 26.
Meanwhile the Union Square shopping centre has launched a “giving back project” to donate £2,000 to 10 local charities that have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The scheme has been developed in partnership with Foundation Scotland, who will help Union Square allocate the money.
