Aberdeenshire Council is looking at ways to tackle drivers “significantly” exceeding the speed limit in a north-east village.
On Tuesday, the Buchan area committee will discuss proposals to introduce two speed cushions along The Street in Rora to slow down traffic.
Previous efforts such as extending the 30mph limits before entering the village and the installation of flashing 30mph signage have had “minimal effect.”
In a report, councillors are told: “The introduction of a physical traffic calming measure is required to slow traffic down and help ensure drivers comply with the appropriate speed limit for the area.”
Drawings show the speed cushions would be placed at two locations along The Street if approved.
As part of the council’s aim to investigate and resolve the speeding issue, a study recently found that most drivers were speeding past the point at an average of 43mph in both directions.
The report also states the proposed measures could be introduced at a cost of £20,000.
If the measures are approved by councillors, there will be a four-week statutory consultation involving emergency services, community councils, the Road Haulage Association and other bodies.
This would then be followed by a 21 day public consultation.
