A north-east cancer charity has lined up a replacement for its biggest annual fundraiser, with supporters instead being treated to a virtual evening of entertainment.
Maggie’s has amassed hundreds of thousands of pounds through its hugely popular Culture Crawl around Aberdeen.
Last summer, a record-breaking 628 people took part in the 10-mile walk around some of the city’s cultural gems.
But such an event would be impossible to stage during the pandemic, and organisers have now conjured up an alternative to boost the coffers of the centre.
The charity is calling on people to raise £100 between now and September 25 to be granted access to the Virtual Culture Crawl.
The event has been billed as an exclusive night of entertainment for people to enjoy from their own home – featuring celebrities, entertainers, short films from various UK venues and some stunning examples of architecture.
Supporters are being encouraged to raise the money by running, walking, cycling, baking or doing anything else that takes their fancy.
Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre head Kevin Mathieson said: “We all know how life has been impacted by the coronavirus this year and it is still a particularly difficult time for those living with cancer, so we are asking people to help them get the support they need by signing up to our Virtual Culture Crawl.”
The charity added that people living with cancer “need the psychological and emotional support Maggie’s Aberdeen offers now more than ever”.
