A key bridge on the A97 Strathdon to Logie Coldstone road will be shut for four weeks to allow for important refurbishment work.
Boultenstone Bridge, located just east of Bellabeg and west of Towie, will be strengthened by Aberdeenshire Council in order to make it more suitable for modern traffic, particularly heavy goods vehicles and haulage.
When the works are completed, the bridge will require less maintenance in the future.
It is hoped this will save the council cash and reduce the need for maintenance work and its impact on travel.
Over the four-week project, the A97 will be shut completely from Boultenstone Bridge to Logie Coldstone.
Access will be provided for emergency services and residents, but this could be subject to delay until the road is cleared, in order to allow vehicles to travel through the roadworks in a safe manner.
The bridge itself will also be shut while work is ongoing, and a diversion will be put in place via the B9119 Tarland to Lumphanan road, the A980 Lumphanan to Bridge of Alford road, the A944 Bridge of Alford to Mossat road, and the A97 Mossat to Strathdon road, and vice versa.
Works are to begin on Monday, August 31.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “We appreciate that during periods of works there can be disruption to the travelling public and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
