It is understood the casualty entered the water to come to the aid of a dog in difficulty at the Donmouth area of the beach. Two lifeboats and a helicopter were involved in the subsequent rescue. It is understood the man entered the water to retrieve the stranded dog just before 5:30pm. A rescue helicopter was dispatched and reached the scene 20 minutes later, airlifting the casualty to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). A woman at the scene was also flown to hospital as a precautionary measure, due suffering shock. It is understood she did not enter the water. Two lifeboats were also launched by the Aberdeen and Cruden Bay Coastguard. The dog, which survived the ordeal, is now in the custody of police. The Aberdeen Coastguard refused to comment on the condition of the rescued man.
