Plans for new north-east nursery approved by councillors

Planning permission has been granted for a new north-east nursery that will cater for up to 120 children.

It will be built in Peterhead’s Berryden Road to support a growing and increasingly popular community.

The application submitted by Aberdeenshire Council sought permission for the new nursery, car parking, service yard and outdoor play area at Dales Park.

Speaking at the online Buchan Area Committee meeting that approved the plan, councillor Stephen Smith said: “I’m quite happy to see this application come forward and have no issue with the principal of it.”

Mr Smith asked the council and its teams “take whatever steps are needed to mitigate any issues to local residents property from the construction works that go on”.

One objection was received regarding concerns over a rise in local traffic, the public road not being wide enough to accommodate additional traffic and on street parking.

At the meeting, councillors were advised the creation of a loop road, a drop-off area and increased parking were designed to “accommodate the additional traffic associated with the nursery”.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire council said: “Dales Park Nursery is situated in an area of Peterhead that is anticipated to grow and develop in the future, so increasing early learning and children provision now will meet this demand as well as assisting with providing local families with 1,140 hours of additional learning and childcare, as the Scottish Government originally intended. “
