An Aberdeenshire hotel is seeking permission to expand its outdoor offerings in order to “survive the impacts” of Covid-19.
The Boat Inn in Aboyne has submitted an application for a major variation of premises licence to Aberdeenshire Council.
It aims to add licensed outdoor seating areas for food and drink, create a takeaway option and make other alterations to its licence.
Four objections have been made by locals, with noise among the concerns.
A statement from the owners to the council said the Boat Inn’s commercial viability was “under immediate threat and as such, so are the jobs of 43 local full and part-time members of staff.”
It continued: “For the business to survive the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, we must be given the opportunity to safely and securely maximise the use of outside areas within the premises, whilst respecting the rights and quality of life of our neighbours.”
The council’s licensing board will consider the application next week.
