The final stage of the demolition of Aberdeen City Council’s former headquarters has been postponed.
A local authority spokeswoman said work that was due to take place at the St Nicholas House site last night did not go ahead as planned “for operational reasons”.
Officials have been in discussions this morning with demolition experts Safedem, who have been carrying out the operation.
Broad Street was closed to traffic last night between 7pm and 6am for public safety reasons.
However, a further restriction planned for this evening has been cancelled until further notice.
Councillors voted to tear down the 1960s structure in October 2011, but the tower block and adjoining lower buildings had to be slowly deconstructed rather than razed to the ground.
Plans have been submitted to the authority to transform the site into a £107million hotel, office and retail development, Marischal Square.
The proposals also include the creation of a “civic square” in front of Marischal College, the current council HQ.
