A north-east sporting stalwart who was one of the chosen few to carry the Olympic flame around the region has been called up to run with the Commonwealth baton later this month.
Stephen Bruce, chairman of the Peterhead JogScotland group, will take it along the town’s Queen Street as it makes its way to an evening reception at Catto Park on June 29.
Another JogScotland member, Jennifer Robertson, will also carry the Queen’s baton through the Blue Toon.
Mr Bruce, his wife Roselyn and daughter Stephanie are all keen runners and organise the annual running festival at Catto Park each summer.
They set-up Peterhead JogScotland six years ago and in 2008, it was formally recognised as the best group of its kind.
He said: “I am delighted to have been given the chance to carry the baton in Peterhead.
“The evening celebration will be a real showcase for the town and I think it is great that the JogScotland group is being recognised by Jennifer and myself being given the opportunity.”
