An Aberdeen children’s charity is finally ready to hit the best greens in the north and north-east after having to postpone due to Covid-19.
The six-week Archie Open was set to get under way back in March as part of a joint initiative between Sport Aberdeen and the Archie Foundation.
But due to the coronavirus crisis, competitors had to shelve their ambitions.
Now, the charity expects hundreds of golfers will pick up their clubs and take part as 17 courses have pledged their support.
Each golfer will be in with a chance of winning one of the three top prizes. First prize will be a year’s worth of golf – a round of golf on a different course each month for the winner and three friends.
The runner-up will win a six-month package, also on offer is a random mystery prize where one lucky entrant will receive a four-ball package from one of the courses.
Jamie Smith, Fundraising Manager for The Archie Foundation said “We are extremely excited to tee off this amazing competition and we are incredibly grateful for the support received from the many clubs and courses across the north and north east who are getting behind the campaign.
“The Archie Open is set to be great fun and we encourage everyone to get out, play and take part.
“Every £5 donated from the golfing community will go a long way to helping local sick children and their families in one of the three hospitals we support.”
Running from September 1 till September 30 the charity has encouraging anyone who has ever held a club to get involved.
The competition is not restricted to serious golfers and is open to those who do not have an official handicap as well as more regular players.
Mr Smith added: “That £5 donation to take part in the ARCHIE Open could pay for vouchers for a hospital meal so parents of a very poorly child can keep their strength up without ever having to leave their child’s bedside.
“It’s a relatively small sum of money to donate but the difference it makes for families in really challenging circumstances is priceless.”
