A north-east man has been banned from the road for driving while under the influence of drugs.
Nicholaus Batty, of Harlaw Road, Inverurie, had taken a quantity of morphine before being stopped behind the wheel of a white Nissan NV200 on Auchmill Road on February 6.
Fiscal depute, Susan Love, told Aberdeen Sheriff Court police received a number of calls about the vehicle and the manner in which it was being driven at around 10am.
A police sergeant on the road began to follow Batty but he failed to acknowledge his presence.
He was eventually stopped when he stopped at a red light and another police vehicle blocked the road in front of him.
Officers noticed the 33-year-old’s pupils were dilated, his speech was slurred and he could hardly keep his eyes open.
He was taken into custody where he repeatedly fell asleep. Blood tests later revealed he had morphine in his system.
Solicitor Christopher Maitland said his client “very much regretted” his actions and had had his licence revoked by the DVLA.
Sheriff Graeme Napier disqualified Batty for 42 months and sentenced him to an 18-month community payback order and made him subject to a six-month restriction of liberty order.
