A man who overturned his car on the A90 and then fled from the accident has been disqualified from driving.
Patryk Nowicki was in a blue Vauxhal Astra on the A90, near Springbank Terrace, Fourdon, at the time of the incident.
Fiscal depute, Susan Love, told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that at around 7.40am on March 9, a witness was travelling north on the A90 behind Nowicki and saw him veer across two lanes.
Nowicki’s car then mounted the verge before overturning and crashing into a barrier.
The witness swiftly contacted the police but by the time officers arrived, the accused had clambered from his car and left the scene.
After carrying out checks, officers attended at his home in Ivanhoe Road, Aberdeen, where they were greeted by Izabella Piekniewska, who advised them that Nowicki had sold the car and returned to Poland.
But officers soon became aware of a Vauxhall Astra still registered in Nowicki’s name as Piekniewska tried and failed to hide it.
They later traced the 27-year-old his work at a parcel delivery firm in Aberdeen and discovered he only held a Polish driving licence.
Solicitor Alex Burn said the crash had been caused by a lack of concentration on his clients part.
Nowicki pleaded guilty to careless driving, failing to report an accident and driving without holding a valid UK licence.
Piekniewska, 45, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. Her solicitor, Christopher Maitland, said she had been in a “panic”.
Sheriff Graeme Napier said Nowicki had a “very poor” record for driving and disqualified him for 16 months.
He was also fined a total of £950 and ordered to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work.
Sheriff Napier added that Piekniewska had committed a “fairly stupid and very deliberate action” and fined her £700.
