Health bosses have confirmed that a cluster of coronavirus cases linked to a series of Aberdeen bars is now “over”.
Last month additional lockdown measures were imposed in the city following a spike in the number of Covid-19 infections.
These were found to have started spreading at the Hawthorn Bar on Holburn Street, and quickly involved 27 other licensed premises its customers had also visited.
In order to curb the spread of the disease hospitality businesses were ordered to shut, a five-mile travel ban was implemented and people were prevented from meeting others in their homes.
As contact tracing began, the number of coronavirus cases associated with the cluster began to increase rapidly.
The final update from NHS Grampian last month determined that 263 people had been affected, and 1,265 close contacts had been identified.
Earlier today NHS Grampian told MSPs that the cluster was now over, and any further identified cases will not be counted towards the cluster total.
A spokeswoman said: “The incident management team met yesterday and concluded that the outbreak linked to hospitality in Aberdeen City is over.”
Scottish Conservative North East MSP Liam Kerr said: “The last month has been an extremely difficult time for everyone in Aberdeen and this news will come as a relief to the city.
“These latest figures are a testament to the work carried out by NHS Grampian staff who have placed their own health at risk for the protection of others during such difficult circumstances.
“Residents across the north-east also deserve great praise by abiding by the rules placed on them during lockdown in Aberdeen.”
