Former RAF top guns will take to the skies over a north-east harbour for the second time next month as part of the town’s annual week-long gala.
The Blades display team will perform daredevil stunts in their small aircraft over Peterhead Lido during Scottish Week which runs from July 19-27.
The exact date of their appearance has yet to be confirmed but spokeswoman Natasha Glenville said the pilots were looking forward to flying their Extra EA-300s more than 500 miles from their base at Sywell Aerodrome, near Northampton, to the Blue Toon.
“We have four aircraft and all are piloted by ex-RAF fast-jet pilots who have flown in the Red Arrows display team,” she said.
“It will be a great display for the locals to see.”
The Blades have flown more than 600 displays across the UK, Europe and the Middle East since forming in 2006.lots.
Among the pilots who make up the team are Ian Smith, who took part in the Battle of Britain memorial flight, ex-Harrier pilot Andy Offer and founding member Myles Garland.
Each of The Blades’ pilots is a former member of the RAF display team the Red Arrows, who performed at Scottish Week in 2012.
Scottish Week organising committee member, Graham Barron, said last year’s performance was a fantastic spectacle.
“The Red Arrows are fantastic, but the Blades are able to fly much closer and the gasps from people at some of the manoeuvres were just superb,” he added.
