A festival celebrating north-east culture and music will go ahead next month, though not in its usual format.

Live Life Aberdeenshire has confirmed that the Across the Grain festival is returning next month for the third year running.

This year the festival, which celebrates Doric and the traditional music of the north east, will take place predominantly online on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

Some outdoor events operating within social distancing guidelines have been planned.

There will also be a variety of activities, performances. films and workshops suitable for all ages – most of which will be free.

Short Aberdeenshire-based films made around the theme of “poetry of the landscape” have been created for this year’s instalment.

The weekend will also feature the premier of a winning musical composition, entitled Gaither, by Aberdeenshire man James Lindsay, inspired by Forvie National Nature Reserve.

Chairwoman of Aberdeenshire Council’s communities committee, Anne Stirling, said: “Though people can’t come together in celebration as they would have previously, I hope people take the chance to celebrate and enjoy the richness of our local heritage.”

Committee vice-chairwoman, Doreen Mair, said: “We may be in lockdown but it’s great to see that we can still come together around a shared love of our Doric culture and language, and our north-east musical roots.”

Bookings can be made for upcoming activities at www.livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk
