An extension of an Aberdeenshire village’s waste water treatment plant has been given the go-ahead amid the growth of the rural community.
The treatment works at Park View in Hatton cannot cope with the further 90 homes planned for the area in the future.
Operator Scottish Water has been given permission from Aberdeenshire Council’s planning department to extend its buildings and treatment pits on Ian and Michael Cruickshank’s land at Hatton Farm.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “Hatton of Cruden wastewater works is currently operating at capacity with no new connections available.
“Planning permission has been granted for 32 houses within the catchment, and a further 64 houses have been identified in the local development plan.”
The extension will mean the plant almost doubles in size, with the whole site screened by around 80 new trees.
