A second post office is to open in Inverurie as an “interim measure” until a more permanent solution can be found.
Despite being one of Aberdeenshire’s fastest-growing communities, the former post office on Inverurie’s Burghmuir Drive closed down in July 2019 after the resignation of its postmaster.
Since then, the town has only had one post office, located on West High Street.
From Tuesday, October 13, a new counter will open at the J G Ross bakers on Highclere Way, in the Highclere Business Park, on the other side of the A96 Aberdeen to Huntly road.
The new premises will offer 20 more hours of post office service a week than the previous branch at Burghmuir Drive.
It will be open to customers from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays, and will offer mail services, withdrawals, deposits and payments, and bill payments.
In the longer term, the Post Office hopes to find an alternative location for the counter.
David Duff, change manager for the Post Office, said: “We are delighted to providing a new post office, which will provide significantly longer opening hours than previously available.
“This is great news for the community.
“This interim post office will operate until a permanent solution is found.”
