North-east Brownies and Girl Guides are lending a helping hand to raise funds to send badges to youngsters in Kenya.
Next year will mark 100 years of guiding in the African nation and a team from Girlguiding Staffordshire hand will travel to Kenya to help them with their celebrations.
They have created a special challenge badge for the occasion and also plan to raise enough money to make improvements to the facilities at the Shanzu Girl Guide Campsite.
In an effort to help their fellows across the border, the 3rd Turriff Brownies and 2nd Turriff have decided to do some fundraising of their own.
Unit leader for 3rd Turriff brownies, Laura Cruickshank, said “Badges hold a lot of fond memories for guides.
“Most girls in Kenya, however, don’t have the opportunity for celebration badges like we do.
“This year the focus has been on community, making an impact and making your voice count, so this fits in with what the girls are looking at.”
The girls plan to raise “as much as possible” through ongoing fundraising activities and have planned a 30 mile swim, walk or cycle.
The badges cost £3 each and the the Turiff youngsters hope to raise funds to enable as many Girl Guides in Kenya as possible to have a badge of their own.
