Councillors are being asked to approve more money for a £1.3million community hall project that has gone overbudget.
The Newmachar Hall project was launched in 2001 to raise money to replace the village hall and provide modern facilities for more than 25 groups.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council’s policy and resources meeting are being asked to set aside another £42,000 for the centre.
In a report for the meeting, the authority’s head of finance Alan Wood said the additional costs were for a fire hydrant, to resolve poor soil conditions under the old car park, remove backfill from adjacent houses, erect a radon and fire barrier.
Jim Gifford, chairman of the policy and resources committee, said: “Unfortunately it is just one of those things.
“We supported the Newmachar Hall project when it was getting started and now there is a request for more money to get it finished.
“We are happy to support it because it is a fantastic project.”
Administration councillors decided to use money from the authority’s underspend on six key areas and set a deadline of March 31, 2015, for £13million to be used.
If councillors agree to back officer recommendations for projects that have already begun a total of £892,000 is expected to be returned to reserves.
Work at Tarves play park came in £8,000 underbudget and costs for Collieston Community Centre were £2,000 less than expected.
Mr Gifford added: “There are a number of projects that have completely finished such as the playpark in Tarves which was underbudget.
“Other projects never got off the ground. We thought they were ready to go but they could not be delivered within the timescale so the money will be used somewhere else.”
