A north-east care home has become part of an award-winning dementia programme.
The Meadows Care Home in Huntly is now part of the Positively Enhancing and Enriching Residents’ Lives (Pearl) scheme, which is studied by health and social care professionals internationally.
The project was developed by Four Seasons Health Care, which owns the home.
Of the 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK, there are an estimated 3,320 sufferers in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
A spokeswoman for the home said: “The ethos of Pearl is to see beyond the symptoms of dementia to recognise each person as individual and support them to live their lives as closely as possible to the way that they always have.
“Our team members underwent several months of specialist training to ensure they are able to recognise and respond to the needs of people with dementia.
“This includes new ways of thinking about dementia and challenges the mindset that someone with dementia may be seen as disabled or dysfunctional.”
