A man has been fined for a racist rant in a north-east takeaway restaurant.
Alan Warrender appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner on May 17 by shouting and making offensive remarks towards Mohamed Ahmed.
The court heard the 50-year-old entered the New Spice take away in Stonehaven just as it was closing.
Fiscal depute Samia Rasheed told the court Warrender asked to order food but was told the shop had shut.
She said this annoyed Warrender and he started to shout and swear before leaving.
Mrs Rasheed said a short time later he returned to the takeaway and said he had put in an order for Chinese food which he was there to pick up.
The court heard he was then informed that the takeaway sold Indian food and he would still not be served.
Mrs Rasheed said Warrender, of 14 Taylor Crescent, Stonehaven, then became extremely aggressive and continued to hurl racist abuse at Mr Ahmed.
Representing himself yesterday Warrender told Sheriff Graham Buchanan the situation was out of character for him and he frequently visited the restaurant without any problems.
He said he was sorry for his actions which he claimed were due to a large amount of alcohol he had consumed earlier that day.
Sheriff Buchanan fined Warrender £500.
