Nearly 600 youngsters from across the north-east enjoyed a special day out yesterday.
The grounds and buildings of Scotland’s Rural College at Craibstone, on the outskirts of Aberdeen, were transformed as clowns and magicians entertained the crowds.
The annual Kids Out event is organised by Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Rotary Clubs and 594 special needs or disadvantaged children, along with their carers and teachers, were welcomed to yesterday’s fun day.
Police and fire crews were on hand to show off their emergency vehicles and there was face-painting, a climbing wall, inflatable games and pony rides.
A diesel train wound its way round the activities and the children were also able to enjoy lunch and an afternoon disco.
Kids Out events take place every year on the second Wednesday in June across the UK and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the day.
Each year a different group of Rotary Club members from 15 north-east groups form a committee to organise Kids Out.
Kids Out committee member Graham McWilliam said: “We get some really great feedback about the day and it is a very rewarding experience to hear that so many young children say it is the best day.
“It means that we are giving something back to the community and it is a useful break for some carers as a lot of these children need detailed care.
“That is not the main object but it helps.”
