Campaigners working to restore an art deco pool to its former glory have been hit with a blow – after storms damaged the roof even further.
Bon Accord Baths closed in 2008, and Bon Accord Heritage recently launched a fundraiser to help make the building weatherproof while they work on an ambitious restoration project.
Their campaign seeks to raise £150,000 to make the baths, on Justice Mill Lane, wind and watertight, while they develop plans and fund the wider project.
However, the heavy rain over the weekend caused further damage – with a video online showing water dripping from the high ceiling into the pool hall.
Bon Accord Heritage is now looking to install a ManSafe System to allow work to be carried out safely on the roof to clear the drainage and prevent further water getting in and causing further damage.
Funds for the restoration project were boosted during an open weekend last month, with about 800 people flocking to see inside for the first time in 12 years.
Many of those visitors donated, and the campaign group has since conducted a drone survey of the baths’ roof to help them understand the extent of the damage there.
