Concern has been raised over picnic benches which have yet to be removed from Union Street in Aberdeen – two weeks after it was decided they had to go.
The council U-turn came only days after the five brightly-coloured tables were installed on the Granite Mile.
But a spokeswoman last night confirmed they are to be moved to storage “this week”, tied in with other work in the area.
They were bought with the £1.76 million physical distancing grant given to the local authority to make the streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists in the pandemic.
They were initially discussed in July after a council consultation with disabled groups.
But due to a run on timber and materials it took until the end of September to come to fruition.
By that stage, coronavirus cases were on the up again and political leaders agreed there was no place for them within stricter government guidance.
It is understood some customers have taken to trying to have orders delivered to the benches from nearby restaurants.
Last night Michael Hutchison, a city centre SNP councillor, said:Â “It can’t be that hard to lift these tables up and put them in storage.
“The timing for putting these in place was completely inappropriate and they’re still in place despite restrictions tightening.
“It’s a shambles that such a simple job still hasn’t been done, despite it being agreed by group leaders two weeks ago.
“Once again, under this administration, simple tasks just aren’t getting done, while they push ahead with pet projects instead.”
